Despite being the recipient of the Pushcart Writers’ Choice Award, the O. Henry Award, and the Edward Lewis Wallant Award for Jewish American Fiction, (and other scholarly awards including fellowships from the Fulbright and the Guggenheim foundations), STEVE STERN is dedicated to penury and obscurity.
The author of over a dozen amazing books including THE ANGEL OF FORGETFULNESS, THE FROZEN RABBI, and THE PINCH, Steve Stern follows in the great tradition of Sholem Alechem, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Philip Roth, Saul Bellow, Bernard Malamud, Cynthia Ozick, and others who are often referred to as “Jewish Writers,” but are nothing short of master storytellers, revealers of truth, and profound entertainers using the magic of words. Steve Stern teaches at Skidmore College for the health benefits.
Steve asked us not to forget “to include the part where I was stolen from my cradle by a buzzard and left exposed atop Mt. Athos, where I was discovered by a troupe of traveling insurance adjusters who raised me and taught me their filthy secrets.”
to read Steve Stern’s novella, ‘Hyman The Magnificent.’
